Welcome to April and the Asset category of Constructive Use of Time.

This category contains four Assets, which include:

• Creative activities — Young person spends three or more hours per week in lessons or practice in music, theater, or other arts.

• Youth programs — Young person spends three or more hours per week in sports, clubs, or organizations at school and/or in community organizations.

• Religious Community —Young person spends one hour or more per week in activities in a religious institution.

• Time at home — Young person is out with friends “with nothing special to do” two or fewer nights per week.

This week, I would like to add to your constructive use of time with ways to help Los Alamos Public Schools, while wearing your pajamas, in the comfort of your own home.

Los Alamos High School athletics is competing in a contest and all that is required of you, is a vote by email.

U.S. Bank is a huge supporter of statewide high school athletics/activities and a major sponsor of the NMAA. Those funds have allowed for sponsorship of the state football, basketball and track Championships and more.

Through this online vote, U.S. Bank will be donating $2,500 to six different NMAA member schools. One school from each classification (B-5A) will be rewarded with a piece of this special $15,000 donation.

Schools will earn more points for “in branch” votes, but the truth is, if you can send a simple email and earn our school a $2,500 donation, it couldn’t be any easier.

Just visit their website at cafegive.com/usbank/rally4rewards/New%20Mexico, or find them on Facebook.

The LAHS NJROTC program is also raising funds for those of you with the gardening spirit.

They have launched a fast-moving, convenient fundraiser: Flower Power.

While beautifying your yard, you can benefit the youth of this local leadership program.

If you aren’t shopping locally, then consider shopping with one that will donate 50 percent of sales to our youth program.

You order from the following site and the products are shipped directly to your home.

For more information call 663-3227, but the sale ends on Friday.

Assets In Action is sponsored by the JJAB and the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce.
