SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — Santa Fe County Sheriff Greg Solano says deputies are investigating a crash that killed three people near a route used by thousands who walk on the annual Good Friday pilgrimage to the Santuario de Chimayo.
Solano says the crash happened around noon Friday on U.S 84/285 about a mile north of where pilgrims turn off the busy highway to make the journey to the Roman Catholic chapel.
No walkers were involved in the crash.
Deputies say a car traveling south crossed the median and was struck by oncoming traffic. A woman and two men inside the car were killed.
Deputies say the car had an ignition interlock device, but so far no signs of alcohol have been found. They say the crash scene is extensive and the car was badly damaged.
