Thanks for help at Fall Fest Funraiser
Children’s Montessori Preschool would like to thank Haley Bridgewater and Nicole Grahm, both of Los Alamos High School Key Club, for their help at our 2nd Annual Fall Fest Funraiser, which was held Oct. 6. Haley and Nicole were a tremendous help in setting up and running the carnival games at this event.
The school would also like to thank Abbie Nelson of the Bowtique, Heather Ortega of The Cutest Shop on the Block and Usborne Books, Andy Ortega of Atomic City Cleaning, Cheria Martinez of Tupperware, Lucy Rendon of Pampered Chef and Petra Shipman for participating in our first-ever arts and crafts fair and Brandon Ortega for running the bounce house activity.
A big thank you also must be given to the parents of our students, both past and present, as well as the community members who attended our event. We raised almost $400 for our scholarship fund.
We couldn’t have had such a successful event without our volunteers and the support of the parents and the community. We look forward to another great even next year!

Fall Resale a success
On Oct. 23 Little Forest Playschool held its Fall Resale, which is one of the major fund-raising events LPS has each year. A non-profit organization, LFP relies on the biannual consignment sale to help with scholarships, building improvements, upgrading playground equipment, purchasing classroom supplies and staff development.
On behalf of the children and parents of Little Forest Playschool, we are very grateful to the community, to those who shopped, volunteered, sold and donated to the Fall Resale. It was a huge success and could not have done it without everyone who helped.
We want to thank Crossroads Bible Church for the use of their wonderful facility and their extraordinarily helpful staff.
A special thank you to Los Alamos National Bank for allowing employees to have the day off to volunteer and Atomic City Cleaning for helping with cleaning up Crossroads Bible Church.
Thank you to Lisa Murillo and Leanne Smith for coordinating pick up and to Hope Pregnancy Center for providing us with extra clean up volunteers. Thank you to the MOMS Club for providing everyone with goodies at the bake sale and with all the proceeds going to Hope Pregnancy Center and a Christmas family.
It was an honor to work with the volunteers who were on the organizing committee, both from the community and Little Forest Playschool parents.
Thank you to all who donated their leftover items, they went to Hope Pregnancy Center, the Española Women’s Shelter, La Familia and a few needy families.
Thank you to the community for their continued support and we can’t wait to see you at the Spring Resale on March 12, 2011.
Thanks for a
successful Yum Run
The 6th Annual Ruby K’s Yum Run was held in memory of its founder, Aaron Goldman on Sept. 25. Ruby Alexander of Ruby K’s paid tribute to Aaron at the beginning of the run.
“Aaron put his passions of running, LA Cares and bagels together in the Yum Run.”
This year’s Yum Run raised over $6,000 for LA Cares, the local charity that addresses the problem of poverty, especially food insecurity in Los Alamos County.
The run this year would not have been possible without Ruby K’s support and primary sponsorship. We wish to thank all of our sponsors — Ruby K’s Bagel Cafe, National Security Technologies, LLC, Otowi Station, Los Alamos National Bank, Neptune & Co., Inc., CB Fox, Aspen Copies, Coca-Cola, Smith’s, Atomic City Roadrunners and Parker Construction.
We thank our many volunteers and RSVP for providing numerous volunteers. We especially want to thank Brad Parker of Parker Construction in helping to close the roads, Orval Hart for timing the runs and applying the age-adjusted factor to the times and our local artist, Donald Montoya, for the wonderful caricature of Aaron for the T-shirts.
A special thank you is extended to Peggy Goldman for her advice and help as we tried to hold this run the way Aaron would have wanted it.
Thank you to our community for participating in this year’s Yum Run and supporting LA Cares.
