The Los Alamos Hilltopper boys tennis team went 3-0 at last weekend’s Clovis Quadrangular, with two of those wins coming handily over two Class 5A teams.
Both the Hilltopper boys and girls teams took part in the quad, which included Clovis, Portales and Rio Rancho’s Sue Cleveland.
Los Alamos’ boys earned a 7-2 victory over Clovis Friday, then followed that up with a 6-3 win over Portales and a 9-0 win against Cleveland.
Also this weekend, the Hilltopper girls went 1-2 at the event. They knocked off Portales 8-1, but fell to Clovis 6-3 and were nipped by Cleveland 5-4.
Los Alamos got three singles wins from Nasim Andrews during the quad. Andrews, who rotated through the Nos. 2 and 3 positions in singles competition, grabbed three straight-set victories at Clovis.
Gillian Hsieh-Ratliff, playing in the No. 1 singles spot, went 2-1 on the weekend, as did Susanna Lucido and Gwynn Cunningham, who played the No. 2 and No. 3 singles throughout the weekend.
For Los Alamos’ boys, Dominic Lucido, was undefeated on the weekend. Lucido won all three of his singles matches and took both the doubles matches
Los Alamos head coach Billy Wilton said he was able to rotate all eight of their players he took with him through his lineup and got mostly positive results with them.
