There’s a new restaurant in town, but the hitch is, it’ll only be open for one night. Morrie Pongratz and the youth team for the United Way have reprised an age-old event called, Dinner over Diamond.
Team Captain Ben Havemann and his crew will host dinner with the Diamond Diner, to raise funds for the United Way of Northern New Mexico.
From 4:30-7:30 p.m. Sunday, drivers on Diamond Drive will see tables and waiters distributed evenly on the overpass by Los Alamos High School.
The menu for the evening includes an Italian style dinner with herb rubbed chicken, vegetables or mashed potatoes, salad, and either lemonade or iced tea for $10.
Dinner reservations aren’t necessary, but are recommended to ensure no one is turned away hungry. The United Way is taking reservations at 662-0800, or through the e-mail, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Youth team member Chelsey Smith enjoys being part of this committee, working as a team and helping so many organizations.
“It’s a fun experience, and it’s satisfying to know that we really are making a difference along the way,” said Smith. “This event should be pretty rockin’!”
She also hopes that the youth portion of the campaign during the next few months, not only raises funds, but also raises awareness about the United Way, its mission and its agency partners.
“I had no idea what a big impact the United Way has on our community,” Smith said. ”I was surprised to learn that so many organizations benefit from the money that is raised and I think the entire youth team this year is excited to be a part of the difference that they make.”
