The Los Alamos Hilltopper girls swimming and diving team won the District 1 championship in a big way Saturday.
The Hilltopper girls finished with 411.50 points at Saturday’s meet in Santa Fe. They outdistanced district runner-up Santa Fe (336 points), the only team that finished within 100 points.
Additionally, the Hilltoppers were able to qualify four different individuals at Saturday’s meet. The top two finishers in each event, regardless of time, advance to the state meet, which will start Friday in Albuquerque.
Molly Finn of the Hilltopper girls and Hilltopper boys swimmers Philipp Pessin, Trey Pereyra, and Connor Schultz all earned top-two finishes to earn a berth at the state title meet.
Finn finished second in both the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke to advance. Pessin was second in the 200 freestyle, Pereyra was second in the 500 freestyle and Schultz finished second in the 100 backstroke.
Los Alamos’ girls captured four individual district titles Saturday as well. Monica Clodius earned a pair of district championships, those coming in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly.
Also picking up district titles were Ashlynn Bennett in the 500 freestyle, Maria Venneri in the 100 backstroke and Amy Neal in the diving competition.
