A pair of Los Alamos Aquatomics swimmers were selected to represent New Mexico Swimming at the Western Zone Age Group Championships.
Alana Goodwin, age 12, and 10-year-old Max Corliss will head to the championship meet, which is scheduled for Wednesday through Saturday in Roseville, Calif.
Goodwin qualified for the Western Zones in the 200-yard backstroke and will also compete in the 50-, 100- and 200-yard freestyle events as well as the 50 and 100 backstroke competitions.
Corliss, meanwhile, made the cut for the Western Zones in the 50 and 100 breaststrokes.
He is also scheduled to compete in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle contests and the 50 butterfly.
The Aquatomics are coached by John Murphy, a former Olympian, and Maribeth Englert. This year is the 50th anniversary of the founding of the club program.
In all, 46 New Mexico swimmers qualified for the Western Zone meet. Swimmers in that meet come from California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana as well as New Mexico.
Each local swim committee is limited to 48 qualifying swimmers, making the meet an exclusive event.
The meet will be held at the Olympic-sized Summer Sanders Pool.
