Sundevils topped by Knights in The Pit

The Española Valley Sundevil boys basketball team was knocked off by the Oñate Knights 48-46 in the Tip-Off Classic showcase Friday night in The Pit.
Española Valley, the defending Class 4A champion, and Oñate, last year’s 5A champ, squared off in the prime time game of the Tip-Off Classic, which pits the top teams from around the state in contests to ring in the start of the hoops season in New Mexico.
The event was hosted by the New Mexico Activities Association.
Also at the Classic, Mora, the lone non-state champ invitee, upset Mesilla Valley Christian 58-37 in a boys contest while 4A girls champion Gallup upended 5A champ Mayfield 55-44.
