Española Valley’s Karli Salazar was named to the North All-Star volleyball team Wednesday.
The New Mexico High School Coaches Association, which sponsors the statewide All-Star teams, made the announcement in a press release.
Salazar, a setter for Española Valley, was one of two District 2AAAA representatives to be selected for the honor. The other was Santa Fe High School’s outside hitter Shivaughn Hatt.
No Hilltoppers were named to the North squad.
A pair of Los Alamos players, Taylor Ealey and Alex Nichols, were named to the 2010 All-Star team, although Nichols was unable to play.
In all, 12 players were selected for the North All-Star team — North team members represent schools in Albuquerque and points north. Of those 12 players, seven were from Class 4A and just five from Class 5A
To be named an All-Star, athletes must be graduating New Mexico seniors.
In Class 2A-3A, a pair of Pojoaque players, middle blocker Elizabeth Gomez and defensive specialist Kiana Vigil, were both given All-Star nods.
Pojoaque won this season’s Class AAA state championship.
The All-Star series will be July 26 in Las Cruces. The venue has not yet been determined.
