The Music Teachers National Associations Six State Southwest Divisional Competition judges may be evaluating the musical talents of Peter Song, Kathy Lin and Angela Helm, but Los Alamos will be first to enjoy the students’ music.The public is invited to attend a recital given by Song, Lin and Helm at 2 p.m. Sunday at Fuller Lodge.These musicians were chosen through an audition to be the representatives for New Mexico at the Music Teachers National Associations Six State Southwest Divisional Competition to be held Jan. 19-20 in Las Cruces. Song, Lin and Helm will compete against students representing Hawaii, California, Nevada, Utah and Arizona. The first place winner of each level will proceed to the MTNA National Competition to be held in Denver in March.During the recital Sunday, the students will premiere the programs they will be taking to Las Cruces. Competing in the piano junior division will be Song. He will perform “Ten Variations on La Stressa, La stressissima” in B Flat Major by Beethoven, “Rondo, Op. 59” by Kabalevsky, and “Polonaise, Op. 26, No. 1” by Chopin. Lin, competing in the senior piano division, will play “Prelude and Fugue in C minor” from the “WTC II” by Bach, “Impromptu Op. 142, No. 3” by Schubert, “Three Tone-Pictures, Op.
