STORM SYSTEMS RAMP UP TO DELIVER RAIN, SNOW

-A A +A

WINTRY WEATHER POSSIBLE ACROSS NORTHERN AND WESTERN NEW MEXICO OVER THE WEEKEND...

A FAST MOVING SOUTHBOUND WEATHER SYSTEM OFF THE OREGON COAST AND A SECOND STORM NEARLY STATIONARY OVER THE TROPICAL EAST PACIFIC OCEAN WILL COMBINE OVER THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA COAST LATE SATURDAY AND SWERVE EASTWARD ACROSS NEW MEXICO THROUGH MUCH OF THE UPCOMING PRESIDENTS DAY WEEKEND.

RAIN SHOWERS WILL CHANGE TO SNOW OVER THE HIGH COUNTRY OF NORTHERN AND WESTERN NEW MEXICO LATE SATURDAY AFTERNOON. AS COLDER AIR MOVES IN AND SNOW LEVELS FALL SATURDAY NIGHT... SNOW COVERAGE WILL EXPAND FROM THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE TO THE ARIZONA LINE ON SATURDAY NIGHT... AND OVER THE SUMMITS AND HIGHER SLOPES OF THE JEMEZ AND SANGRE DE CRISTO MOUNTAINS. SNOW SHOWERS WILL TAPER OFF THROUGH THE DAY ON SUNDAY... WITH SNOW ENDING SUNDAY NIGHT.

SIGNIFICANT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ARE POSSIBLE OVER THE SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS NEAR THE COLORADO LINE... AND LOCALLY OVER THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE AND JEMEZ MOUNTAINS. ELSEWHERE... REDUCED SNOWFALL AMOUNTS MAY STILL CREATE SOME LOCAL TRAVEL DIFFICULTY SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT.

WHILE THE TRACK OF THIS STORM PAIR ACROSS NEW MEXICO REMAINS SOMEWHAT UNCERTAIN... THOSE PLANNING OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES OR TRAVEL IN NORTHERN AND WESTERN NEW MEXICO FROM LATE SATURDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT SHOULD EXPECT WINTER CONDITIONS WITH POSSIBLE TRAVEL DELAYS. PLAN ON EXTRA TIME TO GET WHERE YOU ARE GOING. STAY IN TOUCH WITH YOUR PREFERRED WEATHER INFORMATION SOURCE FOR THE LATEST FORECASTS AND STATEMENTS...
