Los Alamos High School’s girls basketball coach Ann Stewart was named the new athletic director at the school this morning.
Stewart, who took over the program in mid January 2013, has held that position since that time.
When she assumes her duties July 1, she will officially take over for outgoing AD Vicki Nelms. Nelms resigned in mid-April to accept a position at Clackamas High School in Oregon.
Stewart holds a master’s degree in educational administration from Grand Canyon University.
Prior to coming back to Los Alamos, where she graduated from in 1991, Stewart held teaching and coaching positions in Albuquerque, Bloomfield and Alamogordo.
Nelms said she welcomes Stewart to the new position.
“I wish her luck,” said Nelms. “I think she’ll do a great job. Her first order of business will be to find a new basketball coach. It hurts our girls basketball program, but I wish her the best of luck and I hope everything works out for her.”
Stewart couldn’t be reached for comment as of press time.
