The First United Methodist Church in Los Alamos welcomed a new pastor in June.
Rev. Dr. Stephen (Steve) E. Trout is a veteran of the United Methodist ministry, having served 32 years in full time ministry in the New Mexico Annual Conference. Trout has served rural and urban, small and large churches throughout New Mexico and West Texas.
He was most recently the Senior Pastor of First United Methodist Church in Farmington. Trout is also the chairperson of the Order of Elders for the New Mexico Conference, serves on the Board of Ordained Ministry, the Equipping Disciples Task Force and president of the Board of Directors of UMR Communications (publisher of the United Methodist Reporter).
Trout was born in Carmi, Ill. in 1954 and raised in the oilfields of Eastern New Mexico and West Texas. He met Elaine, his wife of 36 years singing in a gospel quartet while they were in high school. He and Elaine have two grown children and two grandsons.
Trout is a 1976 graduate of Howard Payne University, with a bachelor’s degree in biblical studies. He also graduated from the Candler School of Theology of Emory University in 1979 with a master’s degree and received his doctorate from McCormick Theological Seminary in church revitalization in 1990.
