Step up to help United Way

Dear Editor,

There are many communities served by your United Way of Northern New Mexico Service area.

Through your generous gifts and the $1-for-$1 match by the Los Alamos National Security, LLC, the United Way of Northern New Mexico was recently able to award more than 25 grants to agencies servicing the social needs of our communities. These agencies along with United Way's 18 member agencies provide critically important services in areas of nurturing our children and youth, strengthening families, improving physical and mental health and welfare, and enriching the lives of our senior citizens. Your gifts through United Way are truly making a difference.

But our communities' agencies run the risk of not being able to continue with these important services in 2008 since giving to United Way so far this year is significantly below last year. So many of these agencies are strongly dependent on our contributions.

Whatever our personal reasons for not having given - whether job-related uncertainties, simple forgetfulness, or procrastination - the needs of our children, families and seniors remain. They need you to take that important step of pledging your support for 2008 to United Way of Northern New Mexico.
