Fire restrictions are lifted at The Pit
ALBUQUERQUE — Chow down, Lobo fans. State Fire Marshall John Standefer has lifted temporary fire restrictions at The Pit.
Although the fire detection and sprinkler systems have worked since a $60 million renovation was completed before the season, the arena’s smoke removal system has been tested for several months.
New Mexico senior associate athletics director Tim Cass says administrators are pleased by Standefer’s decision. Cass says The Pit has never been safer.
The fire marshal’s approval will allow the arena to offer french fries and chicken strips at concession stands. No cooking was allowed while the smoke removal system was being tested.
Problems with the system caused the arena to be evacuated during a game earlier this season. Another game was evacuated when someone pulled a fire alarm.
