Aggies open their homestand with win over Western
LAS CRUCES — The New Mexico State University men’s basketball team opened a five-game home stand with a 92-65 win over Western New Mexico Wednesday night.
The Aggies (6-4), who had dropped four of five contests heading into their game against Division-II Western, put four players in double figures. Senior guard Hernst Laroche and senior forward Wendell McKines paced NMSU with 18 points each.
Laroche not only had a season-high scoring performance but also a season-best five steals.
Center Hamidu Rahman recorded his first double-double of the year with 13 points and 13 rebounds, which were both season-high marks, while sophomore center Tshilidzi Nephawe tied his season-best with 12 points.
The Aggies posted a 53-32 advantage at halftime, shooting 50 percent from the floor (17-of-34) in the first half.
NMSU hosts Southern Monday.
During its homestand, NMSU will take on the University of New Mexico Lobos Dec. 28.
NMSU defeated UNM in the teams’ first meeting last month in Albuquerque.
