Aggies fall short at home against Wildcats
The New Mexico State University men’s basketball team’s upset bid fell short Tuesday night against the Arizona Wildcats.
NMSU forward Wendell McKines had a career night for the Aggies, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Aggies fell to the Wildcats, 83-76 Tuesday at the Pan Am Center in Las Cruces.
Early in the contest, NMSU went up by eight points, but Arizona would come back to take a 44-40 lead at the half. NMSU would tie up the contest less than a minute into the second half and led briefly at 53-51, but Arizona (5-2) countered with a 21-9 run over nearly eight minutes to go up 72-62.
The Aggies trimmed the lead to three points with 1:04 remaining, but wouldn’t score again in the contest.
McKines finished with 28 points and 10 rebounds for the Aggies (5-2), while Hamidu Rahman finished with 13 points and eight rebounds. Wildcat guard Nick Johnson had 15 points to lead his team.
