St. Mike’s, Lovington and Aztec win in football
In baseball-like scoring contests, the St. Michael’s Horsemen and the Lovington Wildcats won in the Class 3A football semifinals and will advance to the state title game.
That wasn’t the case in Saturday’s Class 4A semifinal, however, as the Aztec Tigers won a shootout over the Valencia Jaguars.
The Tigers, the No. 2 seed in the 4A football playoffs, topped Valencia 47-41. They will face the top-seeded Goddard Rockets in the championship this weekend.
The Rockets knocked off Artesia 28-10 to advance to the final. The game’s date and location hadn’t yet been announced by the New Mexico Activities Association.
In 3A, St. Michael’s edged Hope Christian 8-7, while Lovington blanked Silver in another defensive struggle, 5-0.
The date and time of the 3A title game also had not been announced.
In Saturday’s 2A championship game, Santa Rosa defeated Eunice 21-14.
