Class 4A football playoffs continue
The Class 4A state football playoffs continue today with the top four seeds seeing their first postseason action.
Top-seeded Goddard, which has been the No. 1 team throughout the 2012 season, will take on eighth-seeded Moriarty tonight at the Wool Bowl. The winner between Goddard and Moriarty will face tonight’s winner between fourth-seeded Belen and fifth-seeded Deming in the Class 4A semifinal next week.
There were four blowouts in the first round of the 4A playoffs last week, with none of the games being decided by less than 25 points.
Santa Fe, the District 2-4A champion, had the worst go of it in the opening round, losing 63-13 at Aztec. Moriarty topped Farmington 45-20, Deming blanked Roswell 36-0 and Piedra Vista crushed St. Pius X 49-3.
Also tonight, No. 2 seed Los Lunas will face Piedra Vista. Saturday, third-seeded Artesia will take on Aztec, the No. 6 seed.
