Estrada wins golf title
LAS CRUCES — Alex Estrada of Belen held on to win this year’s New Mexico-West Texas Amateur championship at Red Hawk Golf Club.
Estrada went to a sudden-death playoff with Devin Miertschin of El Paso, Texas. In the playoff, Miertschin missed a 5-footer to give Estrada the title.
Estrada shot a three-day total of 217 to tie Miertschin after 54 holes and force the playoff.
The top finisher from Northern New Mexico was Marty Sanchez of Santa Fe. Sanchez finished with a three-day total of 230, which placed him tied for 15th.
