Aggies’ Troy Gillenwater declares for NBA draft
LAS CRUCES — New Mexico State University Aggie junior forward Troy Gillenwater has declared for the NBA draft, NMSU said in a press release Wednesday.
Gillenwater, a guard, led the Aggies in both scoring and rebounding with 18.9 points and 6.3 rebounds per game in 2010-11.
“After several lengthy and in-depth conversations between Troy and myself, we have reached the decision to enter Troy’s name into the 2011 NBA draft at this time without signing with an agent,” Aggie head coach Marvin Menzies said. “We will assess the situation as it unfolds in the way of interest and opportunity and make a final decision when the time is right regarding his future. We are 100 percent on the same page and in agreement with this decision.”
Gillenwater was a first team All-WAC selection and National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District Six Team honoree this season.
Gillenwater, the 21st-ranked scorer in NMSU history scored 30 points or more four times, including a career-high 34 points against Boise State Jan. 27.
