Pajarito Environmental Education Center will offer a special, late-night Summer Family Evenings Star Party, starting at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday. The program is free and open to the public and no registration is required. The Pajarito Environmental Education Center is located at 3540 Orange St., behind the high school. PEEC will have several telescopes available so participants can view different objects.
The summer sky is full of sights, since from Earth is looking into the Milky Way from its center, outward. These center regions have various features — glowing gas clouds, huge balls of 100,000 stars, balls of slowly expanding gas lit up by a central star that is dying and more. There are also two planets visible, Mars and Saturn, and Saturn’s rings should be visible, as well. In addition to showing these celestial objects, Chick Keller will discuss what they are doing and what they tell people about how the galaxy works.
