Saint Dimitri Orthodox Church in Los Alamos recently received the assignment of a new priest for their mission community.
The Metropolitan of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) has assigned Father John Anderson as the priest-in-charge of Saint Dimitri. Metropolitan Jonah, who is located in Washington, DC, is also currently serving as the Bishop of Dallas and the Diocese of the South. Saint Dimitri is one of the now 73 churches and missions in the diocese — which extends from Virginia to Florida and New Mexico — most of which have been founded in the last 15 years.
Father John is a priest monk, called a hieromonk and, until earlier this year, served as the priest and superior of the Monastery of the Archangel Michael in Cañones, N.M.
In addition to serving as priest at Saint Dimitri, Hieromonk John will complete his degree in film at the University of New Mexico-Los Alamos. He has already produced several documentaries, including the consecration of Saint Seraphim Orthodox Cathedral in Dallas, Texas, as well as a 10th anniversary video for Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Santa Fe.
Saint Dimitri Orthodox Church has been an active mission in Los Alamos since 1999, serving Orthodox from all traditions. All are welcome to join in services, which are celebrated principally in English.
