Janine C. Detter is on the fast track to getting to know the people and organizations served by Los Alamos National Bank as the bank’s new marketing director. Detter, 32, described her excitement during an interview Friday afternoon. “We’re expanding and opening our third office in Santa Fe this year and since I’m relatively new to Los Alamos, I look forward to getting to know both the Los Alamos and Santa Fe communities and making sure that we’re successful in our expansion efforts,” Detter said.Born and raised in Bakersfield, Calif., Detter left home at the age of 18 to attend the University of California at Berkeley. After earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology, the former Janine Joseph stayed in the Bay Area until September 2005, when she married Chris Detter and the couple moved to Los Alamos. Chris works at Los Alamos National Laboratory in the biosciences division.Janine Detter worked in the human resources department at LANB for more than two years. In her new position, Detter will have greater opportunity to meet the public and become involved in community events.“I really like interacting with people and enjoy being involved in the community,” Detter said. “LANB provides a fun way to do that.”Detter describes the atmosphere inside LANB as relaxed and down-to-earth, adding that employees call each other by first names including senior management. She wants the community to know her door is open and she welcomes people to stop by for a visit. In 2000, LANB earned the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, and in July, received first-place recognition as the “Best Bank in Santa Fe” for the second year in a row. In analyzing LANB’s philanthropic nature, Detter said she believes it’s rooted in Chief Executive Officer Bill Enloe. “Bill has definitely been the visionary for this bank,” she said. “Part of his vision is to make it fun to come to work and that has filtered into the whole bank culture. Bill always says we’re only as successful as the community, therefore we support the community and that’s the attitude of everyone here at the bank.”Detter replaces the bank’s previous marketing director, Lisa Schwarz, who moved east earlier this month to be near her family. LANB President Steve Wells said while he’s sorry to see Schwarz leave, he believes Detter is an excellent choice to continue the good works of the marketing department.“Janine has many strengths that will be an asset in her new position,” Wells said. “I think the quality of employees we’ve been able to attract and cultivate allows us to move forward without missing a step.”Detter is the only child of Fred and Judy Joseph. Fred was a band and orchestra teacher at a Bakersfield junior high school for 35 years. He retired five years ago and the couple moved to Fort Collins, where Judy now works as a high school secretary.Detter and her husband enjoy taking hikes with their four-year-old German shorthaired pointer Jake. A variety of photos featuring Jake decorate Detter’s office. “He’s like our child,” she said laughing. In her spare time, Detter said she enjoys scrap-booking, crafts and reading – and baking cookies is her specialty. She and her husband also take time to travel around the United States.
