Sports update: Sandoval-Donahue qualifies for 2012 Olympic Trials

Magdalena Sandoval-Donahue, formerly of Los Alamos, qualified for the United States Olympic Trials in the marathon.
Sandoval-Donahue, a former elite runner for Los Alamos High School, finished second in the Eugene (Ore.) Marathon May 1 to earn a spot in the trials.
At the Eugene Marathon, Sandoval-Donahue finished in 2 hours, 44 minutes, 41 seconds to earn the runner-up finish.
The marathon was won by Katie Blackett of Colorado, who finished with a time of 2:44:14.
To earn a spot at the Olympic trials, runners must achieve a marathon time of 2:46:00.
Sandoval-Donahue, who won the 1998 individual state title in cross country, currently lives and trains in Albuquerque, where she attends graduate school.
The Olympic Trials for the marathon will be held Jan. 14 in Houston. The top three finishers earn a place on the 2012 U.S. Olympic team.

Local crew will call All-Star Game

A crew of local officials will call the June 4 All-Star football game in Santa Cruz.
The veteran crew from Los Alamos includes referee Kerry Coffelt, umpire Greg Hanson, head linesman Roger Anaya, field judge Larry Vaughn and back judge Rick Hinckley.
The North-South All-Star Game, which will be played at McCurdy High School, is for 6-man and 1A classes. Game time is 1:45 p.m.
