Golf tourney to benefit Children’s Hospital

The Chip In 4 Kids golf tournament will be held Aug. 22 at Los Alamos Golf Course.

The tournament, sponsored by Zia Credit Union, is a scramble format. A shotgun start is scheduled for 9 a.m.

Entry fee is $90 per player, which includes greens fees, cart, lunch and prizes. Deadline for registration is Aug. 18.

Proceeds from the event go to the University of New Mexico Children’s Hospital.

YMCA racquetball league starting soon

The Family YMCA of Los Alamos is currently accepting registrations for its adult racquetball league.

Matches will be played during the week with participants arranging the times.

The league is open to adults 16 and older. Several regular season matches are guaranteed and the season will end in a tournament.

The season will run from Sept. 8-Nov. 15.

Price for participation is $25 for YMCA members, $40 for non-members. Registration ends Aug. 24.

Girls soccer team meets at 8 a.m. Monday

The Los Alamos Hilltopper girls soccer program will hold a meeting Monday, the first day of fall 2008 tryouts.

The meeting will be held at Sullivan Field at 8 a.m.

At the meeting, schedules and procedures will be reviewed and medical release forms will be collected. Players without medical release forms will not be allowed to participate.

Tryouts will be held Monday-Friday 4:30-7:30 p.m. at the Pueblo Complex.

For the tryouts, all players must have soccer shoes, shin guards and bring their own water.

X-C program has meeting, workout set

The Los Alamos Hilltopper cross country program will meet Monday at the Auxiliary Gym at 3 p.m.

At that meeting, coaches will collect paperwork and ensure physical examinations have been completed. A workout will follow the meeting.

Attendance is required. Those without necessary paperwork will not be allowed to participate.

• Pick-up at Piñon Elementary School: 2:30 p.m.

• Pick-up at Chamisa Elementary School: 2:35 p.m.

• Pick-up at Los Alamos High School: 2:30 p.m.

• Pick-up at Mountain Elementary School: 2:33 p.m.

• Pick-up at Aspen Elementary School: 2:35 p.m.

• Pick-up at Barranca Mesa Elementary School: 2:45 p.m.

• After-practice departure from Los Alamos Middle School: 5:20 p.m.

Volleyball has Monday meeting

The Los Alamos Hilltopper volleyball program will hold a meeting for interested players Monday.

Players and coaches will meet from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Monday. Players interested in trying out should bring physical examination forms and all other materials to that meeting.

Starting Tuesday, volleyball workouts are scheduled for 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Players should bring running shoes Tuesday.

Giddens will appear at hoops camp

An appearance by former University of New Mexico Lobo and NBA first-round draft pick JR Giddens highlights the New Mexico All-Stars Kelvin Scarborough Basketball Camp this year.

The camp is being hosted by the Pueblo of Pojoaque Wellness Center.

This year’s camp will run from Aug. 13-15 at the PPWC.

Price for participation is $75 by Tuesday, $85 at the start of camp.

Online registration for triathlon ends Thursday

Thursday is the final day to register online for the Los Alamos Triathlon.

Interested participants may visit www.active.com to register for the event, which is scheduled for Saturday.

Price for participation in the triathlon is $50 per single competitor, $90 for two-person teams and $120 for three-person teams.

NRA Banquet is Sept. 13

Members of the Los Alamos Sportsman’s Club will attend a Friends of the NRA Banquet Sept. 13 at the Lodge at Santa Fe.
