Golf club swap will be held at LAGC

The Los Alamos Junior Golf Boosters will hold its annual Father’s Day Golf Club Swap Sunday.

The club swap will be held at Los Alamos Golf Course. The swap is scheduled from 8 a.m.-noon.

All proceeds from the event will go to benefit junior golf in Los Alamos.

LAHS athletic passes to go on sale next month

The Los Alamos High School athletic department’s new athletic passes will go on sale July 27.

The 2009-10 passes are good for all regular season athletic events at LAHS and Los Alamos Middle School. They are not accepted for postseason events.

Prices for the passes are $100 for  families (two adults, two students), $50 for adult passes, $30 for senior citizen passes (additional senior citizen passes can be purchased at a discount), $25 for non-athlete students and $15 for student-athletes.

A basketball-only pass will also be sold for $30.

YMCA’s Firecracker 5K registration is open

Registration is open for the Family YMCA’s Independence Day Firecracker 5K Fun Run.

The run will be held July 4 at 8 a.m. Check-in starts at 7:30 a.m.

All participants are eligible for prizes in a lottery-draw format. The race has separate male, female and age divisions. Walkers are welcome, but there is not a separate walkers’ division.

Athletes who have signed a YMCA liability waiver may register online at www.laymca.org. Registrations are also being taken at the YMCA.

Price for participation is $12 per person through July 2 and $20 thereafter. T-shirts will be given to the first 130 entrants.

Fencing club continues Tuesday classes in June

The Family YMCA of Los Alamos will continue its fencing classes Tuesday nights for the rest of the month.

Beginning fencing classes will start at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday nights and the intermediate class at 7:30 p.m. Because of irregular attendance, both classes will emphasize bouting instead of instruction.

Summer students in Los Alamos with fencing experience are welcome to join the classes. Equipment is available for use during the classes.

Elite soccer academy starts Monday

Registration for the 2009 Hilltopper Soccer School’s Elite Academy is open.

The Elite Academy is hosted by the Los Alamos boys soccer program. It will run from June 22-26 from 9-11 a.m.

The academy is for youth ages 9-13 who are interested in furthering their soccer skills.

The academy will focus on soccer fundamentals and scrimmaging.

Price for the camp is $35. Additional family members can receive a discount. All proceeds go to the Hilltopper boys soccer program.

Volleyball camp session two opens Monday

The Los Alamos Summer Volleyball Camps, run by the Los Alamos Hilltopper volleyball team, will open its second session Monday.

Next week’s camp will be position-specific. Players may register for one or all of the position-specific classes. The classes include defense Monday, setting Tuesday, outside hitting Wednesday and middle hitting Thursday.

Price for participation is $30 per class.

Registration forms are available at both branches of Mesa Public Library. Players may also register on the first day of each session.

Splash N Dash set for Wednesday

The Triatomics Multisport Club and Los Alamos County Recreation Division are hosting the Splash N Dash training events this summer.

These courses are designed to prepare individuals for the Los Alamos Triathlon, which will be held Aug. 15.

Participants of the Splash N Dash events will swim laps at the Larry R. Walkup Aquatic Center and run a course along Canyon Road.

The Splash N Dash events will be held Wednesday, July 8, July 22 and Aug. 5. Registration will be held on the day of the event starting at 6:20 p.m.

Pre-event meetings are scheduled for 6:55 p.m. and start times are set for 7 p.m.

The event is not a race, but is timed. Participation in Splash N Dash is free.

Isotopes to host clinic Saturday

The Albuquerque Isotopes baseball team and staff will hold a clinic Saturday for boys and girls ages 5-15.

The clinic will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in Albuquerque.

The June 20 clinic will focus on the fundamentals of pitching, fielding and hitting.

All participants will receive an Isotopes hat, post-clinic lunch and two reserved level tickets on any non-restricted Isotopes home date.

Price for participation in the event is $50.
