WRLL Opening Day ceremonies set for SaturdayOpening Day for White Rock Little League will be held Saturday at Byers Field in White Rock.WRLL team photos will be taken starting at 9 a.m., and Opening Day ceremonies will start at 11 a.m.Three exhibition baseball games will be played Saturday at Byers Field and a softball exhibition will be held at Minors A Field starting at 11:30 a.m.The public is invited to attend. Concessions will be available at the ceremony.

LALL to hold Opening Day May 3

Los Alamos Little League Opening Day will be held May 3 at Lou Caveglia Field.Opening Day ceremonies will start at 1 p.m. Home Run Pizza and Baskin Robbins will be on-hand, and the league’s concession stand will also be open.There will be a drawing for a bicycle courtesy of Caballo Bikes.

Hershey meet will be held at Sullivan Field Saturday

The local Hershey Track and Field Meet will be held Saturday at Sullivan Field.The meet is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. and will continue until approximately 1 p.m.More than 50 kids between 9-14 are expected to compete Saturday. Athletes could qualify for the state meet, to be held in Roswell during the summer, and those may qualify for the national meet in Hershey, Pa.Volunteers are being sought to help time running events. Atomic Man Duathlon registration open

Triatomics Multi-Sport Club and Los Alamos County are hosting the fourth-annual Atomic Man Duathlon April 27.The duathlon consists of the Fat Man (intermediate) and Little Boy (beginner) divisions. Both divisions are run-bike-run format.The Atomic Man is sanctioned by USA Triathlon and is part of the Southwest Challenge Series.Registration materials and other information is available at www.triatomics.org/duathlon on the Internet.

Special Olympics track, volleyball coming soon

The Special Olympics Area 2 track and field and volleyball competitions will be held in Los Alamos April 26-27.The Area 2 track meet will be held at Sullivan Field from 1-5 p.m. April 26 and volleyball will be held at the YMCA April 27.An awards banquet will also be held April 27 at the Best Western Hilltop House.

Senior Olympic Games starting locally May 15

Registration is open for the 2008 Los Alamos Senior Olympic Games.The Games will be held May 15-June 15. They are open to any Los Alamos resident who turns 50 years old by Aug. 30.Competition will be held in a number of events, including softball throw, Frisbee throw, soccer kick, shuffleboard, swimming, track, field, basketball, bowling, cycling, dance, golf, horseshoes and racewalking.For more information, contact Ann ReVelle at 662-3526 or e-mail laseniorolympics@yahoo.com.Registration information and materials can also be obtained at the Family YMCA and the county senior centers.

YMCA offering youth, kinder track and field

The Family YMCA of Los Alamos is accepting registrations for its Kinder Track and Youth Track and Field programs.Boys and girls ages 4-9 may take part in these introductory programs.Meetings will be held at Sullivan Field 4:30-5:30 p.m. on days to be determined. The programs will run from May 19-June 27.Registration will continue through May 11 at the YMCA. Price for participation is $30 for YMCA members, $42 for non-members.Volunteers are also being sought to assist with the program.For more information or to volunteer, call the YMCA at 662-3100.

Jemez Mountain Trail Runs registration open

The Jemez Mountain Trail Runs, hosted by the High Altitude Athletics Club, are scheduled for May 17.The Jemez Mountain Trail Runs consist of a 50-mile run, 50 kilometer run and a half-marathon (13.1 miles).Only online entrants are being accepted. Ireland hits ace at golf courseTravis Ireland fired an ace at the Los Alamos Golf Course.Ireland hit his hole-in-one on the par-3 sixth hole. It was witnessed by Mick Matuszak.The ace was the first for Ireland.
