Balog named All-State defensive back

Hilltopper defensive back Kory Balog was named to the All-Class 4A second team for the 2010 season.

Balog, who led Los Alamos in interceptions and was among the team leaders in tackles this season, was named to the second team secondary defense by the New Mexico High School Coaches Association. The all-state 4A selections were announced Wednesday.

Balog, who was also the team's quarterback for the past two seasons, was the lone Hilltopper to earn All-State honors this year.

Brycson King of Aztec and Josh Houghtaling were named the All-State first team quarterbacks this season. The two signal-callers met in the 4A championship earlier this month with the Artesia Bulldogs earning a 45-34 victory to claim the 27th championship in school history.

Aztec led all teams with six first team All-State nods, while Artesia and Belen both grabbed five slots each.

This season, Balog was named Offensive Player of the Year in District 2AAAA. He was the lone representative from the district.
