Majors softball concludes tonight

The Española Valley All-Stars scored four times in the first inning to defeat Santa Fe’s All-Stars 5-3 Monday at Overlook Park.

The two teams will meet at 6 p.m. for the District 1 Majors softball title.

Española Valley topped White Rock 10-3 Sunday to advance to the tournament playoff. White Rock was knocked out of the tournament with Sunday’s loss.

10-11 baseball starts Wednesday

The District 1 10-11 baseball tournament will be played at Byers Field in White Rock starting Wednesday.

White Rock will take on Santa Fe at 6 p.m. in the tournament’s opening game.

The winner of that game will face Española Valley Thursday at 6 p.m.

The tournament will take Friday off, then continue on Saturday.

The title game will be held on Sunday, with an elimination game scheduled for Monday, if necessary.

WR Pirates win District 1 T of C

The White Rock Pirates took top honors in last week’s District 1 Tournament of Champions.

The Tournament of Champions was held at Alto Park in Santa Fe.

The Pirates were the lone survivors of the 16-team, single-elimination bracket.

To get to the championship, the Pirates knocked off the Los Alamos Rockies 4-1, the Pojoaque Diamondbacks 9-2 and the Española Angels 5-2.

The Pirates topped the Española Mariners 23-14 in the title game to win the tournament.
