McCloskey ties for 30th at NM Senior Open
Local golfer Dennis McCloskey finished tied for 30th at the New Mexico Senior Open.
The Senior Open was Monday and Tuesday at Isleta Golf Course just south of Albuquerque.
McCloskey, the former Los Alamos Golf Course manager, finished with a two-day score of 153. He shot a 78 Monday, but came back Tuesday to shoot a 75. The 9-over-par total tied him with three other golfers.
Roy Christensen of Provo, Utah, was the top finisher at the tournament, shooting an 11-under-par for the event, easily outpacing Jeff Hart of Solana Beach, Calif., by three shots. For his effort, Christensen won the $1,600 top prize.
Tom Velarde of Española was 3-over, tying him for 21st place along with Lee Sanchez, the four-time winner of LAGC’s annual Atomic City Invitational.
The top New Mexico finisher in the tournament was Carlton Blewett of Roswell, who was third overall with his 7-under finish.
