Track program returns June 6

The Los Alamos County Recreation Division is hosting the Hershey’s Track & Field Program June 6.
The program is open to boys and girls ages 9-14. The competition will be at Sullivan Field starting at 10 a.m.
Interested participants must provide a copy of their birth certificate along with registration materials. There is no charge for participation.

5K to benefit Alzheimer’s research

The local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association will host the Jerry Bower Memorial 5K Run/Walk May 12.
The run will start behind the Betty Ehart Senior Center in Los Alamos. Race time is 9 a.m.
Registration forms are available at several different sites around Los Alamos County or can be obtained online at atomicrunners.com. Registrants will receive a T-shirt.
Proceeds from the run will benefit research into Alzheimer’s disease.

Healthy Kids Day is Saturday

The Family YMCA of Los Alamos is hosting Healthy Kids Day Saturday.
The event will be at the YMCA’s facility from 9 a.m.-noon.
Healthy Kids Day is a national Y initiative designed to improve the health and well-being of youth. Scheduled activities include climbing, Zumba for kids and gardening.

Jim Thorpe Race set for June 16

Registration opens this week for the fifth annual Jim Thorpe 5K Race.
The race serves as the Native American 5K national championship. It will be held June 16 at the Southwestern Polytechnic Institute, 9169 Coors Road NW, in Albuquerque.
The race is open to all Native Americans in Alaska and the contiguous 48 states. Registrants must be USA Track and Field members in good standing.
A community 5K race is also scheduled June 16. All interested persons may compete in that race.
