Sundevils move into second place in baseball standings

The Española Valley Sundevils baseball team swept a crucial doubleheader against the Santa Fe Demons Saturday to keep pace with the Los Alamos Hilltoppers in the District 2-4A standings.
The two teams wore out home plate in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader at Santa Fe, as the Sundevils prevailed 27-12. In the second game, the Sundevils earned a healthy 14-4 victory.
The two wins put Española Valley at 5-2 in the 2-4A race — and 10-9 overall, the only district team with a season record above .500 — and trail Los Alamos by just 1-1/2 games in the district standings.
The Hilltoppers (10-10, 7-1 in 2-4A) and Sundevils will meet for what could well be a district title-determining doubleheader Saturday in the valley.
