Mitsunaga earns Sanchez Award

Los Alamos Hilltopper wrestler Ben Mitsunaga was named the 2009-10 recipient of the Bryan Sanchez Memorial Award.

Mitsunaga, a 130-pound freshman, was given the award in a ceremony following the Bryan Sanchez Memorial Invitational Saturday. Los Alamos’ Hilltoppers hosted the tournament.

The award is given to a deserving Los Alamos wrestler who embodies the spirit of Sanchez, according to the Hilltopper coaching staff.

Sanchez was a standout wrestler for Los Alamos, placing sixth in the 2005 state Class AAAA championship tournament. Sanchez died in a car accident on Christmas Eve 2008.

The award is presented by the Sanchez family.

Los Alamos will host the District 2AAAA championship tournament Saturday.

WRLL registration starts at 6 p.m.

White Rock Little League will hold a registration sessions for the 2010 season today.

Registration will be held at Home Run Pizza in White Rock from 6-8 p.m.

All boys and girls ages 5-18 may play in WRLL.

Price for participation is $45 for T-ball, $55 for Minors and $65 for Majors and up.

LALL to hold meeting Feb. 18

Los Alamos Little League will hold an organizational meeting for the 2010 season Feb. 18.

The meeting will be held at Mesa Public Library. It will start at 6 p.m.

Anyone interested in volunteering for the baseball or softball seasons are encouraged to attend.

Girls basketball game rescheduled for Feb. 17

Los Alamos High School’s girls basketball game against Albuquerque Academy, which was scheduled for Friday but postponed due to weather, will be made up Feb. 17.

The Academy make-up game will include the junior varsity game at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity game at 7 p.m.
