LAHA, county hosting free hockey day

Los Alamos County and Los Alamos Hockey Association will host a “Try Hockey For Free” day at the county’s ice rink.
The event will be Saturday. It is open for anyone 18 and under from 3:45-5 p.m. A girls-only session will start at 5 p.m.
LAHA coaches will be available prior to the sessions to answer questions for prospective hockey players.
Tickets must be obtained from Los Alamos County for admission to the ice rink. They may be picked up at the Larry R. Walkup Aquatic Center or can be reserved by contacting the Los Alamos County Recreation Department at 662-8173.

Turkey Trot is Sunday

The annual Turkey Trot and CROP Walk are scheduled for Sunday starting at Los Alamos Middle School.
The event consists of two courses, a 1.7-mile course and a 2.57-mile course which go through North Mesa. It is a fundraiser for the CROP organization and LA Cares, which both fight hunger locally and worldwide.
The race is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Volleyball team hosting tryouts

The Northern New Mexico Fusion volleyball team will hold a tryout session for its 2014 season Sunday at Los Alamos High School’s Auxiliary Gymnasium.
The Fusion is a club-level Junior Olympic volleyball team. Girls ages 11-17 may try out for the team, which plays competitive matches in- and out-of state.
There will be two tryout sessions, one for girls ages 11-13 at noon and ages 14-17 at 2:30 p.m. Athletes are asked to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the session and be dressed for play.

Soccer registration is open

Registration is open for the spring 2014 Los Alamos Youth Soccer League season.
LAYSL play is open to anyone interested in playing recreational level soccer during the spring. Registration closes Feb. 14 and the season starts March 24.
