Football team serving waffles Saturday

The Los Alamos Hilltopper football team is hosting a fundraising waffle breakfast Saturday.
The breakfast will be at the Masonic Lodge, 1401 N. Sage Loop. Breakfast, which includes waffles with fruit topping, sausage, bacon and beverage, will be served from 7:30-10:30 a.m.
Price for the breakfast is $7 per adult, $3.50 for those 6 and under. Proceeds will benefit Los Alamos’ football program.

Youth soccer registration open through Monday

Registration is still open for the Los Alamos Youth Soccer League 2013 fall season.
Interested players can either participate in the recreational or tournament division. Recreational players have two days of practice and one game per week, while the tournament division plays in two to four tournaments outside Los Alamos County and scrimmages with teams from Santa Fe and Albuquerque on a regular basis.
Registration for the LAYSL season is open through Monday.

Golf tourney to benefit baseball, softball

The Los Alamos Hilltopper baseball and softball programs will host their annual Diamonds In the Rough golf tournament Saturday at Los Alamos Golf Course.
The scramble format tournament is a fundraising event to help offset costs for both teams.
Price for participation is $80 per player. The fee includes cart, greens fees and post-tournament dinner. Prizes will be given for the top gross and net scores, as well as longest drive and closest shot to the pin.

Bowling league starts Tuesday

The Tuesday Housewives Bowling League is welcoming new bowlers for its upcoming season.

The league opens its 52nd year of competition Aug. 20. Events are held at the Santa Claran bowling alley.

Those interested in taking part in this year’s play are asked to call 661-6163.

KinderKick registration is open

The Family YMCA of Los Alamos is offering its KinderKick youth soccer program starting Aug. 26.
KinderKick is geared toward teaching young players about the game of soccer. Registrations are being accepted for kids ages 3-6 through Saturday.
Teams will meet in locations both in Los Alamos and White Rock from 5:30-6:30 p.m. weekday nights.
Price for participation is $40 for YMCA members, $60 for nonmembers.

Game and Fish hosts Outdoor Expo this weekend

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish will host the 2013 Outdoor Expo at Albuquerque Shooting Range Park. The expo will be from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Certified instructors will provide one-on-one instruction in how to safely shoot .22 rifles and pistols, shotguns and muzzleloaders. Expert archers will provide hands-on guidance with bows and arrows, and experienced anglers will teach fly and spin casting, and show how to tie fishing flies that really catch fish.
The popular fishing pool will be filled with large catfish for visitors to catch and release.
Other activities include a kayak pool, climbing wall and fishing demonstrations featuring live game fish in a huge aquarium.
Visitors also can learn the rules of the off-road and how to safely operate an off-highway vehicle on the department’s OHV simulator. Dozens of organizations, sporting clubs and other groups will be on hand to promote outdoor recreation and conservation.
