Splash N Dash returns today

The Splash N Dash series, which is hosted by Triatomics Multisport Club, will have its next session today.
The series is designed for those interested in training for the Los Alamos Triathlon, which is scheduled for Aug. 17.
Participants can choose either a 400-yard swim and 5K run or 200-yard swim and 3K run. An additional shorter course is also available for youth participants.
All Splash N Dash events start at the Larry R. Walkup Aquatic Center.
Registration for each Splash N Dash is done about 30 minutes prior to the start at the aquatic center. There is no fee for participation but registration will be limited to the first 75 entrants.

Girls soccer tryouts begin Aug. 12

Los Alamos High School’s girls soccer program will start its tryouts for the fall 2013 season Aug. 12.
Tryouts are open to any girl entering grades 8-12 interested in playing for the LAHS program.
Players should meet Aug. 12 at Sullivan Field at 7 a.m. and have all necessary paperwork ready. Tryouts will be conducted at Sullivan Field and the Pueblo Complex.
All interested players must have soccer shoes, shin guards and bring their own water to each session.

Registration is still open for City golf championship tournament

Los Alamos Golf Course announced this morning that it will continue to accept entries for this year’s Los Alamos City Championship tournament.
The City Championship is set for Saturday and Sunday at LAGC. Registration is open for any Los Alamos Golf Association member, Los Alamos Women’s Golf Association member, or Los Alamos County resident with a Sun Country handicap.
The entry fee is $25 per player. That fee does not include cart rental.

NMAA Foundation hosting fun run

The 2013 New Mexico Activities Association Foundation’s Fun Run is scheduled for Aug. 10 in Albuquerque.
The Fun Run, which will include a 5K run/walk and 1K kids fun run, will benefit the NMAA Foundation’s scholarship program.
The event will be at the Albuquerque Academy campus starting at 8 a.m.
Price for participation is $20 for the 5K, $12 for the 1K. Registration information can be found online at nmact.org.

Youth soccer referee clinics scheduled in Albuquerque

Three upcoming soccer referee clinics are being offered in Albuquerque for those interested in officiating locally.
Los Alamos Youth Soccer League requires Game 9 certification, which is being offered at these clinics. Clinics will not be held in Los Alamos this year but the Albuquerque clinics are scheduled for Aug. 4 and Sept. 1.
To register, interested participants can visit nmsra.ezregister.com on the Internet. There will also be a 2014 recertification clinic scheduled for Aug. 10-11 for existing referees. More information on that clinic can be found by visiting nmsra.org.

Baseball tryouts are Aug. 10-11

The Albuquerque Baseball Academy will host its Fall Tryout Showcase Aug. 10-11.
The event is open for all high school baseball players. Freshmen and sophomores will have tryouts Aug. 10 and juniors and seniors Aug. 11.
