College student-athlete info meeting is Jan. 30

Los Alamos High School will host a meeting for student-athletes and parents of student-athletes interested in learning more about requirements for NCAA and NAIA eligibility.
The meeting is set for Jan. 30 in the LAHS speech theater starting at 6:30 p.m.

Beginning fencing class starting soon

The Family YMCA of Los Alamos is currently accepting new students for its upcoming beginning fencing class.
The class starts Feb. 4 and is open to interested persons 10 and over. Beginning fencing, which is for those with little or no previous experience, covers basic footwork and strategy.
The class will be Tuesdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Price for participation is $20 per month for members and $40 per month for nonmembers.

K of C hosts free throw contest

The Knights of Columbus will host its annual local free throw contest Sunday.
Competition is open to boys and girls ages 10-14. Contests will be held in several age group categories.
The event is free but participants must sign up between 12:30-1 p.m. at Griffith Gymnasium Sunday. Parent consent is required to participate.
The winners of the local events can advance to district, state, national and international competition.

Isotopes’ job fair is Feb. 8

The Albuquerque Isotopes Triple-A baseball club will host its 12th annual job fair Feb. 8.
Anyone looking to secure a game-day, seasonal position with the Isotopes during the 2014 season is strongly encouraged to attend.
Positions such as bat boys, cleaning crew, grounds crew and mascots will be interviewed for with the Isotopes. Food and beverage servers will also be interviewed by Ovations Food Services.
Those interested should fill out an application before attending the Feb. 8 job fair. Applications, as well as more information on the fair, are available at abqisotopes.com.

LALL volunteer meeting will be at library

Los Alamos Little League will hold a coaches and volunteer meeting for the 2014 baseball and softball seasons Friday.
The meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. at 1475 Central Ave. LALL will install its board of directors at that meeting.
Anyone interested in volunteering for the spring season is encouraged to attend.

Spring athletic meeting is Feb. 5 at LAHS

Los Alamos High School will host its spring athletic parent meeting Feb. 5.
A general meeting will start at 6 p.m., then be followed by sports-specific meetings approximately 40 minutes later.
Anyone whose student-athlete is interested in competing in spring sports should plan to attend the sports-specific meeting — those who attended a general meeting in the fall or winter don’t have to attend the spring general meeting.
Those planning to attend are asked to register online. Information on registration can be found by visiting the athletics’ website at laschools.net.
