An accident without serious injuries snarled traffic early Monday afternoon at the intersection of Jemez Road and N.M. 4, when Jemez Road was closed for cleanup of a diesel fuel spill.
A New Mexico State Police spokesman said that 18-year-old Mikala Reed of White Rock escaped serious injury in the accident, after she took her eyes off the road to put down her cell phone and her car crossed the centerline, where she collided with a semi truck traveling eastbound. The accident “punched a hole in the diesel fuel tank, spilling about 30 gallons of fuel on to the roadway.”Jemez Road was closed while a Hazmat team cleaned up the spill.
Reed was cited for failing to maintain her lane.
