The White Rock 9-10 softball All-Stars rolled to a big win Wednesday night to clinch a spot in the state tournament and come within one more win of taking the District 1 title.
White Rock scored seven runs in the final two innings Wednesday to knock off Santa Fe 12-3 in the round-robin tournament at Overlook Park. Santa Fe scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning — it was the home team Wednesday — to get back to within three runs of White Rock, but White Rock countered with four runs in the top of the fifth to wrest control of the contest back.
A day earlier, White Rock rolled over Española Valley 18-1, scoring 11 runs in the bottom of the first and three more in the second.
Hannah Mojica earned the victories in both contests, giving up just one hit and striking out 23 batters in eight combined innings of pitching. Morgan Hohner threw two innings against Española Valley, striking out four batters.
Mojica was getting the job done with the bat as well, going 2-for-3 against Santa Fe and 3-for-4 with an inside-the-park grand slam Tuesday.
White Rock is off tonight and will await the winner of Española Valley and Santa Fe in the district title game. That game is set for Friday at 6 p.m.
Regardless of the outcome, White Rock will take part in the state tournament, which starts July 24 in Albuquerque.
