The Los Alamos Hilltopper softball team blasted the Capital Jaguars in a pair of District 2-4A games Saturday at Overlook Park.
Los Alamos needed just 9-1/2 innings to close out the two games against the Jaguars. Los Alamos scored eight runs in the third inning as it cruised to a 15-2 win in the opener, then came back from an early 3-0 deficit to breeze to a 15-5 win in five innings.
The victories moved the Hilltoppers to 3-0 in the district standings. The Hilltoppers are looking to repeat in 2-4A, but will have a huge test Friday when they host the Bernalillo Spartans.
Capital (1-14 overall, 0-2 in 2-4A) was held to just two hits in the opener.
Hilltopper pitcher Monika Teter struck out seven of the nine batters she faced in game one to earn the victory. Dancie Smith came on in relief in the fourth.
A trio of Hilltoppers led the offensive effort in the first game. Micaela Christensen had a home run as she went 2-for-3 at the plate. Emily Lucero finished 3-for-3 with a triple and Alyssa Van Anne was 2-for-3.
In the second game, three more Hilltoppers stepped up at the plate. Smith was 2-for-4, while Lexi Mang and Kristin Christensen went 2-for-2. All three hitters finished with two doubles.
“We hit the ball well,” Los Alamos manager Roger Anaya said. “We had 14 hits each game. It was great…I’m pretty happy. Every girl went out and did what she had to do.”
Rachel Anaya started the game for Los Alamos. She allowed two runs in the first and one in the second before shutting out Capital in the third.
Smith again came on in relief, allowing two runs in two innings pitched.
Los Alamos (8-9, 3-0 in 2-4A) scored eight times in the bottom of the second and five more in the bottom of the fourth to pull away.
Bernalillo, which heading into Saturday was 11-2 on the season, had a doubleheader scheduled against Santa Fe. Results of those games weren’t available as of press time.
