The Los Alamos Hilltopper softball team fell Tuesday to the Los Lunas Tigers on the road.
The Tigers handed the Hilltoppers a 12-2 loss Tuesday in Los Lunas. It was the fourth defeat in five outings to start the season for the Hilltoppers.
Los Alamos, which has a good nucleus coming back from last season, in which it won the District 2AAAA title, has gotten off to a slow start so far.
In its four losses on the season, Los Alamos has been outscored by a total of 42-3.
The Hilltoppers opened the season with three losses in four outings at the Piedra Vista Invitational this weekend, falling to Gallup, Portales and El Paso (Texas) Riverside before taking an 11-10 decision against Shiprock in the tournament finale.
Los Alamos, however, has spent the early part of its season without ace pitcher Monika Teter, who was finishing up her basketball season. Teter, now a junior, finished 2010 with an ERA of 2.48.
The hard-throwing Teter was solid throughout the season for the Hilltoppers, putting together her best work during the 2AAAA season as she picked up big wins against Española Valley and Bernalillo to help seal the district title.
