By Mike Cote

With an important decision about her future needing to be made, Megan Burditt wasn’t going to rush into anything.Burditt could’ve signed her National Letter of Intent in a ceremony Wednesday afternoon along with four other Hilltopper student-athletes, but she wanted to take an extra day or so and decide for sure if she was doing the right thing. It turns out she was.Burditt signed to play softball with Western Nebraska Community College, making her decision official Thursday. She will head to Scottsbluff, Neb., late this summer following graduation.“It’s awesome,” Burditt said of Western’s softball program. “They’ve been looking at me for awhile. I went to visit and I fell in love with the town and I got to know the coach really well.”Western boasts a solid junior college softball program, which set a school record in 2007 with 36 wins and the reigning regional coach of the year in Maria Winn. And, significantly for a player like Burditt, 12 recent players from Western have gone on to play softball at four-year institutions.Eventually, Burditt said, she would love to go on and play for Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colo.In her career at Los Alamos, Burditt sports a .534 batting average and a .926 fielding percentage, having played at second base and center field.
