As expected, the Los Alamos Hilltopper boys and girls soccer team pulled off a decisive doubleheader sweep Saturday afternoon.
First, the Hilltopper boys knocked off the Capital Jaguars Saturday at Sullivan Field, while the Hilltopper girls routed Capital’s squad, which didn’t manage to get even one shot off in the nightcap and didn’t survive to see the second half.
Los Alamos’ boys led by as many as four goals in Saturday’s game one and held on for a 5-3 win over the Jaguars, while three different Los Alamos girls scored two goals each in an 11-0 drubbing.
With the wins, both teams run their District 2AAAA records to 2-0.
For the Hilltopper boys, Jon Thoma and Will Schoonover each scored a pair of goals and Davis Anson had three assists on Los Alamos’ first three goals in the big 2AAAA win.
In recent years, the Hilltoppers had run into their share of problems with the Jaguars, including losing a 3-2 shootout decision to them in Santa Fe in 2007. The Hilltoppers were in a must-win situation at the end of last season, but pulled out a 3-1 win at home in the last game of the regular season to qualify for the playoffs.
The Hilltoppers are expected to get back to form and win the 2AAAA title this season, but are well aware they can’t take Capital (7-5 overall, 0-1 in district) for granted.
