The Los Alamos Hilltopper boys and girls soccer teams were big winners in a District 2AAAA doubleheader Tuesday.
The two clubs outscored the Bernalillo Spartans by a combined 19-0 in two twilight games at Sullivan Field. The Hilltopper girls thumped the Spartans 9-0 in the opener Tuesday, while the Hilltopper boys needed less than three-quarters of regulation to knock off the Spartans 10-0 in the nightcap.
Both teams improved to 4-0 in 2AAAA and are atop the district standings with one more round of district games to go.
The Hilltopper girls (10-4) have outscored their 2AAAA opponents by a combined 38-0 so far. They have won four straight games and five of their last six.
Next, they will face Espaola Valley, which they beat 10-0 in their 2AAAA opener Sept. 18.
Los Alamos’ boys, whose 2AAAA opponents are tougher than the girls’ counterparts, feel good about their first round of district play but know two opponents are still hanging around.
“District-wise, we have to play tough,” Los Alamos head coach Evan Gartz said. “Capital and Taos still feel like they have a chance against us.”
Against Bernalillo, Jason Reagor had two goals and an assist before giving up his field spot and taking over as goalkeeper.
