When it comes to seeding for the postseason Class AAAA soccer tournaments, the past several seasons have been more about juggling a place or two.
Arguments over which teams should be No. 1, 2 or 3 have been far more common than which teams should be in the top four and which teams shouldn’t.
However, with brackets scheduled to be released in just over one week, the 2010 postseason isn’t shaking out to be so cut-and-dried.
Both the Los Alamos Hilltopper soccer teams are among those who are keeping close eyes on results and, like Muhammad Ali, hoping their last punches will make a good impression on the judges just before the bell sounds.
While both teams will be off this weekend, they both have big games set for next week, ones that could well determine where they will land in the AAAA brackets.
Los Alamos’ girls have already clinched a playoff spot, something they earned with a 4-0 victory over Santa Fe Tuesday.
The Hilltopper girls are one of just three teams in the last decade to make the Class AAAA state title game. The Hilltoppers reached the finals in both 2008 and 2009, but were defeated by the Albuquerque Academy Chargers both seasons. Their last state title came in 2003.
