Local players will participate in the Far West Regional League soccer semifinals this weekend.Will Schoonover and Jason Reagor of Los Alamos High School will travel to San Juan Capistrano, Calif., along with their club soccer team, the Classic FC Red Star. The winner of the final two rounds will advance to the Far West Regionals, which is part of the U.S. Youth Soccer League national championship tournament.FC Red Star is the only team from New Mexico to advance to this level.During qualification play, Red Star went 4-2, defeating AZFC’s (Ariz.) Hammers by a final of 2-1 and Paris Saint-Germain (Calif.) 3-1.Following those two games, held March 8 in Albuquerque, Red Star split four contests in Phoenix March 15-16.Red Star lost to Oxnard (Calif.) FC Premier 3-1 and North Valley (Calif.) 1-0 before bouncing back to beat Real LVSC (Nev.) 91 Gold 2-1 and North Huntington Beach (Calif.) 5-3.Along with Red Star, OSC Rage (Calif.), Oxnard and Sereno 91 White (Ariz.) will take part in the final round. The winner of round-robin play will advance to the regionalRed Star is coached by Vladi Stanojevic of Albuquerque and also includes Taos standout Patrick Pacheco. It is the top-ranked U17B team in the state and has been nationally ranked since February.
