Los Alamos police and fire personnel Thursday responded to 10 minor vehicle accidents between 6:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
“There were no injuries reported from the accidents,” Deputy Chief Kevin Purtymun said. “A driver did slide completely off the roadway near the White Rock Y but did not sustain any injuries.”
Purtymun credited the fact that the schools are closed for Christmas vacation to fewer cars on the road.
Teachers and students who drive are off beginning today and that helped reduce traffic,” he said.
Los Alamos National Laboratory conducted a staggered quitting time Thursday afternoon, which also helped the situation, officials said.
Traffic on Trinity Drive and the Truck Route did become congested a couple of times today, he said. The key is to drive slowly in snowy and icy conditions.
