The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Northern New Mexico including Los Alamos, beginning Wednesday afternoon.
The forecast calls for snow accumulations of 8 to 12 inches and there is a chance of blowing snow as winds are expected to be 15 to 30 mph with gusts as high as 40 mph.
Precipitation will begin Wednesday morning but will intensify Wednesday afternoon with snow becoming more widespread and heavy. Snow will continue Wednesday night and into Thursday before tapering off in the afternoon.
Temperatures also will take a plunge with lows on Thursday expected to be six degrees and five on Friday.
