June 1 primary election packed with Republicans

Eight Republicans and three Democrats made their intentions to seek a seat on the Los Alamos County Council official during the one and only filing day at the County Clerk's Office today.


The 11 candidates vying for four council vacancies include:




  • Appointed Councilor Ralph Phelps;
  • Former Councilor Geoff Rodgers;
  • Former Councilor Fran Berting;
  • Former Councilor Jim Hall;
  • Businessman/LANL Group Leader Ron Selvage;
  • Business Consultant Ralph Damiani;
  • Musician Richard Hannemann; and
  • Resident Anthony Davis




  • Businesswoman/JJAB Coordinator Debbie Gill;
  • School Board Member Ken Johnson; and
  • LANL phD Student Nathan Hjelm


Candidates filing for other offices include:




  • Incumbent JoAnn Johnson, Republican


Magistrate Court Judge


  • Incumbent Pat Casados, Democrat; and
  • Developer Gary Ahlers, Republican


Municipal Court Judge


  • Incumbent Alan Kirk, Republican


Probate Court Judge


  • Appointed incumbent Y. Ellen Hong, Democrat




  • Marco Lucero, Democrat

  • Incumbent Jeannette Wallace, Republican;
